About Baptism

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision. The inward decision is when one choose to make Jesus the Lord and Savior of their life. Baptism is the outward expression of that decision.

 

Baptism is not something that saves us. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. If we receive and believe on Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, then we will be saved. In this life, and in eternity. 

WHY WATER BAPTISM?

 Water baptism is a symbol:

  • Being washed of our sins by Christ’s death on the cross
  • Jesus went into the grave, and came back to life. In the same way, we die to our old way of life without Christ, and have new life with him. 
  • We are identifying ourselves with Jesus Christ. 

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT IT?

"For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross." 

Colossians 2:12-14

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

Spend some time writing out some things you may like to share with the church family if you are open to it. You can share in a short summary, how and when you came to Christ. Think of things that can fit on an index card that can be shared. It’s not necessary. Yet, it can be a great blessing for many. 

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

For the baptism:

  • Dark shorts
  • Dark T-shirt
  • Optional to wear a bathing suit underneath

Bring:

  • Towel
  • Flip flops [optional]


WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE BAPTISM?

  1. You will have the option to share a bit of your God-story or testimony if you desire OR Pastor Dave will share a few words about baptism and introduce you.
  2. Then you will be led to the baptismal. There are stairs for you to walk in and place for you to sit.
  3. When ready, the baptizer will say, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit."
  4. Then all you need to do is lean back with your arms crossing your chest [and you may choose to how your nose.]
  5. You will be celebrated and then have a chance to go change.
